ON THE BOARDS: Strawberry Hill Townhomes
Work is proceeding on the design of a six-townhome project in Kansas City, Kansas. The units, which range in size from 1,500 to 2,200 sf, are oriented vertically and will help re-establish the critical density of a formerly single-family residential block. Each dwelling will feature expansive windows, balconies, roof terraces and small semi-private gardens. Although the material palette is still being finalized, the project will likely utilize brick, textured concrete and wood. The project is being developed by Community Housing of Wyandotte County, inc. |

Si, Si, PIZZABELLA, Si!
PIZZABELLA opened in late 2007, and has been a big hit. It’s the best pizza joint el dorado has ever done in the Crossroads. Whether you come to admire the handcrafted Ipe and steel banquettes or the feast on affordable handcrafted pizzas, you won’t be disappointed. There are big-ass ovens that cook the pizzas in four minutes. Plus, you can get roasted brussell sprouts--can you get roasted brussell sprouts at Pizza Hut? I don’t think so. Check out their menu. |

Articulated Lindberg Extender
We've been working a lot with the Kansas City-based artist Anne Lindberg recently. She was commissioned by Diane Alpert to do a 200 foot long drawing on the second floor facade of her new el dorado-designed building at 75th and Washington. In addition to looking good, the drawing provides a welcome measure of solar control to the internal space. And we've been working with her on the design of an "Articulated Lindberg Extender" to assist her in the creation of her future drawings. This is a fancy way of saying that we're making her an adjustable parallel bar and work table big enough to keep up with her imagination. View her work at annelindberg.com. |

UNDER CONSTRUCTION: Unitarian Fellowship of Lawrence
The Unitarian Fellowship of Lawrence had outgrown the one-room school house it called home and selected el dorado to consider strategies for renovation & expansion. A proposed 5000 sf addition, currently under construction and slated for completion in June balances the puritan sensibilities of the early 1900’s structure with the contemporary sensibilities of an ever-evolving fellowship. The addition fully integrates landscaping as an extension of site and environmentally sustainable design. It looks cool, will look cooler when it’s complete, and we look forward to it’s completion. |

Architectural League of NY
We are extremely proud to announce that el dorado has been selected as one of eight firms to participate in the Architectural League of New York’s Emerging Voices lecture series. Founded in 1982, the series is intended to recognize and encourage architects who are beginning to achieve prominence in the profession. El dorado will open the 2008 series with a lecture in Washington DC on March 4th, and in New York City on March 5th. Upon hearing about our selection, the five partners attempted to give each other high fives. Although this did not go over so well, the spirit behind the gesture was genuine. This is a pretty big deal for the global eldo. For more information on the series, check out archleague.org. |

Five Young'uns
el dorado, which began as a whisky-swillin', quasi-outlaw design and fabrication firm, now has an estimated five young'uns running around the office on weekend nights, causing trouble. Stella, Maple, Judith, Sarah and Finn; They are very short, but they don't eat much and we like them a lot. |
